Message from the Executive Director

Advocates For Services For The Blind Multihandicapped, Inc began over thirty years ago; started by a group of concerned parents whose adult children were aging out of the state sponsored residential schools for the developmentally disabled. Faced with the daunting task of what to do, they formed their own agency and developed small group homes to meet the very unique needs of their children and those with very similar challenges; blind, deaf, multihandicapped individuals. The first group home opened in1989 in Brooklyn, with five more residential programs to follow. ASBM has grown over the years, and currently operates six residential programs, one day habilitation program, and also provides MSC services; all in Brooklyn and the Bronx.

While many things have changed in our service industry over the years, ASBM’s mission of” caring for the disabled with dignity, compassion and respect” continues; as evidenced by our wonderfully dedicated staff working together with the individuals we support in all of our programs. We must continue to work together with parents, family members, clinicians, and the community to provide the very best for our individuals. We thank you for visiting our website!
